Fees and Real Cost
VALR or Luno to Binance: Cheapest USDT Network
Compare only networks supported by both the sending exchange and Binance, then use each confirmation screen to calculate the USDT Binance will actually receive.
There is no permanent winner between VALR and Luno for a small transfer to Binance. The usable route depends first on the asset and networks both sides support, then on the withdrawal quote and minimums displayed when you confirm. A fee copied from an old comparison can be wrong before you send.
For USDT, VALR's official help page says it supports deposits and withdrawals on Solana, Tron and Ethereum, and warns that the network selected at the destination must match. Luno's guide gives the same matching rule for supported sends and says the dynamic fee appears before confirmation. Binance likewise instructs users to select the same deposit network as the sender.

Start with Binance, not the sender
Open Deposit Crypto on Binance, choose the exact asset and inspect the networks currently available to your account. Record the network name, deposit address, minimum credit and any Memo or Tag requirement. If a network is suspended, remove it from the comparison even if the sending exchange still offers it.
Then open the send or withdrawal screen on VALR or Luno and find the intersection. Only a network shown by both platforms can be compared. “USDT on both sides” is insufficient if one side sends on Ethereum and the other address belongs to Tron.
What VALR's official pages establish
VALR documents USDT on Solana, Tron and Ethereum and says deposits through another selected network can result in loss. Its charges page classifies crypto withdrawal fees as variable and says the quote is displayed before confirmation. That means a static table can explain the method, but your live confirmation screen must supply the fee.
For each eligible network, write down withdrawal amount Q, quoted fee F, and Binance minimum deposit M. Expected receipt is Q − F. The route is viable only if that result meets Binance's current minimum and any sending minimum.
What Luno's official guide establishes
Luno says it offers a network choice when more than one is supported for the selected crypto. Its send fee is dynamic and displayed before confirmation. Sends are disabled by default and may have an activation waiting period, so “cheapest now” is not useful if your account cannot yet send.

Do not assume Luno offers exactly the same USDT networks as VALR. Check the live asset screen. If a crypto or network is absent, compare a different supported route rather than inventing compatibility.
Use net received, not the fee label
Create a worksheet at one point in time:
| Input | VALR candidate | Luno candidate |
|---|---|---|
| Asset | USDT | USDT |
| Matching network | fill in | fill in |
| Withdrawal amount Q | ||
| Live fee F | ||
| Expected Binance credit Q−F | ||
| Binance minimum met? | yes/no | yes/no |
| Extra trade needed? |
If one route requires buying a different asset and converting again on Binance, add both trading costs and price movement. A low network fee can be overwhelmed by two spreads.
Why small transfers behave differently
A fixed-quantity fee has a larger percentage effect on a small amount. The withdrawal cost rate is F ÷ Q. The same fee that is negligible on a large transfer can consume a visible share of R1,000's crypto value.
Do not split a transfer into many tiny pieces just because each feels safer; each withdrawal may incur another fee. A test transfer has a security purpose. Price the test and main transfer as two fees, then decide whether the risk reduction justifies it.
Address and Memo checks
Copy the address from your own Binance deposit page. If Binance shows a Memo or Tag, both values are required. If it does not, do not make one up. Paste the address into the sender and compare the complete string, then confirm the selected network again after pasting.
Use an address whitelist only after verifying the label includes both destination and network. “Binance USDT Tron” is safer than an ambiguous “USDT” label. Avoid copying an address from transaction history because address-poisoning records can resemble a genuine address.
If the transfer is missing
Check the sender first. A pending or review status with no transaction ID has not necessarily reached the blockchain. Once a TxID exists, inspect it on the correct explorer. If it is confirmed but Binance has not credited it, compare asset, network, address, Memo, amount and required confirmations, then contact Binance with the TxID.
Wrong-network recovery is not guaranteed, especially when the destination is a custodial exchange. Do not send a second payment to “unlock” the first; preserve the exact records and use official support.
Separate withdrawal fee from blockchain fee
An exchange's withdrawal quote can include more than the exact network fee visible later on an explorer. VALR says its quoted crypto withdrawal fee can differ from what it pays the network, while Luno explains that its send fee can cover blockchain and operational costs. For your worksheet, the relevant value is what the sender will deduct before confirmation.
Do not add the explorer's fee again if the sender already deducted a withdrawal fee from your balance. Your outcome is the net asset credited to Binance.
Compare an alternative asset carefully
If USDT has no matching network or its fee consumes too much of a small transfer, a lower-fee asset may look attractive. Price the entire sequence: ZAR-to-asset spread and trading fee on the local exchange, withdrawal deduction, then asset-to-USDT spread and trading fee on Binance. Also account for price movement while the transfer confirms.
The alternative wins only if the final Binance USDT is higher under the same ZAR budget. Network fee alone cannot answer that question.
Test amount versus main amount
A test should exceed both the sender's minimum withdrawal and Binance's minimum deposit after the fee. Price the test and main transfer as two separate withdrawals. Splitting R1,000 into several tiny sends can multiply a fixed fee and leave amounts below a credit threshold.
Once the test is credited, compare the saved address, network and Memo again before the main amount. A successful old test does not prove a currently suspended network will work.
A support-ready record
Keep the sending platform's withdrawal ID, asset, network, gross amount, quoted fee, destination address, Memo/Tag, TxID and timestamp with timezone. On Binance, keep the matching deposit screen and any transaction-history status. Redact balances, email, full account numbers and unrelated addresses.
No TxID usually means the sender still controls the pending step. A confirmed TxID to the correct address moves the investigation to Binance's deposit conditions. This distinction saves time when choosing which support team to contact.
